Whitnall School District & Village of Hales Corners Road Work - 116th Street

A Joint Statement from the Village of Hales Corners and the Whitnall School District

The Village of Hales Corners and the Whitnall School District are coordinating upcoming utility work on S. 116th Street as part of the voter-approved modernization of Edgerton Elementary School.

To serve the renovated school, crews will install a new connection to the municipal water main beneath S. 116th Street. Construction is scheduled to begin on Thursday, July 30.

Because the roadway was recently resurfaced as part of the Village’s broader capital improvement plan, the Whitnall School District and Village worked collaboratively to develop a restoration plan that protects the long-term condition of the street. Following completion of the utility work, the affected block will receive a full-block remill, specialty geotextile road fabric layer, and complete resurfacing by the Village's paving contractor. The Whitnall School District will fully fund this restoration, resulting in no additional cost to the Village.

"This project is an important part of the modernization work approved by our community," said Superintendent Dr. Brady Reinke. "We appreciate the Village's partnership in coordinating this work and developing a restoration plan that minimizes impacts to residents while protecting this public investment."

Village President Dan Besson added, “We appreciate the School District's commitment to restoring the roadway following the utility work. By working together, we can complete this necessary infrastructure project while maintaining the quality of the street for residents."

What Residents Can Expect:

Phase 1: Underground Utility Work (Starts Thursday, July 30)

Crews will install the underground water main connection and place a smooth temporary patch over the trench. S. 116th Street will remain open to local traffic.

Interim Drivable Period (Late July – August)

Following the initial utility connection, S. 116th Street will be fully restored, drivable, and open to all normal neighborhood traffic while final resurfacing is scheduled.

Phase 2: Complete Road Resurfacing (Tentative Weekend Schedule in August)

To deliver a pristine road surface, full-block resurfacing will take place over a weekend in August (weather permitting). The tentative sequence is:

Friday: Road milling operations (removing the top asphalt layer).

Saturday: Specialty Petromat geotextile road fabric installation.

Monday: Final asphalt paving and cooling.

Localized Weekend Closure Notice:

To protect the specialized fabric layer before asphalt is applied, a localized section of S. 116th Street will require a temporary road closure from Saturday morning through Monday's paving completion. The District and Village will communicate the exact August weekend dates to residents well in advance once vendor schedules and weather forecasts are finalized.

Essential Services Uninterrupted:

Emergency vehicle access, regular mail delivery, package drop-offs, and municipal trash collection will continue without interruption throughout all phases of work.

The Village of Hales Corners and the Whitnall School District appreciate residents' patience and cooperation as we complete this important infrastructure project.
